Used CPAP Machines

Buying used cpap machines is one alternative to treat the snoring condition. Cpap machines can be a bit costly (around $1,000 new) so most people try to get a more economic way to treat their snoring problem. Before deciding how used or new they want to get the cpap machine is important to know how it works.

What is a CPAP machine?

CPAP is short for “continuous positive airway pressure”, this machine pressurizes the air you are breathing helping you to inhale more oxygen without making more effort and at the same time the pressure contributes to keep the windpipe open helping you achieve a deep and restful night. As long you keep using the machine you will have a healthy oxygen intake, but once you stop using it you will have trouble breathing while sleep and the condition will return. The machine which is a very common treatment for the patients with sleep apnea has several up sides but some downsides too.

Typical problems with CPAP machines

Used cpap machines - mask
The used cpap machines and the new ones can present some situations that might cause discomfort to the users. The machine is generally the size of a shoe box and is connected through plastic tubes to the mask which will cover the patients nose or the nose and mouth area depending which type of mask they are using (nasal mask or full mask). Chin straps are used to prevent the loss of air pressure through the mouth.

The mask must be a perfect fit for your face otherwise it can present some problems like skin irritation, rashes and sores if there is a small space between the cpap mask and your face. This situation can cause a leak of pressurized air as well decreasing the efficiency of the machine especially if the mask is not the appropriate size or shape for you. If the chin strap is not adjusted properly then you might sleep with your mouth open causing your mouth to dry and at the same time making the cpap machine less effective.

Another problem that can arise if the cpap mask is too tight is it can increase the pressure on your eyes causing pain and possible conjunctivitis.

Tips to use the CPAP successfully

Whether you are using a used cpap machine or a new one is important you familiarize with it. First make adjustments to the mask setting little by little also use soft pads to reduce irritation. Using a full cpap mask will help you greatly if you breathe through your mouth and if the mask has some chin straps it will help keep it that way avoiding throat irritation. Try to get a machine with humidifier that way will reduce the irritation on your skin. Replace the cpap machine filter frequently. Try to use the machine as much as you can to get used to it. Also no matter if is a used cpap machine or a new one is essential that you consult your doctor to make sure the mask is the right fit and all the machine settings are appropriate.
