Snoreplasty

The snoreplasty is one simple procedure that some people have used to eliminate the snoring problem. As you know the condition is one that affects millions worldwide. The snoring not only affects the person that snores but also their partner’s resting time. Snoring is usually caused by some kind of obstruction in the airways or nasal passages. There are many factors involved in the snoring of people like being overweight, allergies, sinus problems and even colds.

Sometimes enlarged tonsils, too much tissue on the throat area and deviated nasal septum are the responsible ones for the snoring. Naturally there are many ways to deal with the situation depending on the cause. One of them is the snoreplasty procedure. This procedure consists on injecting a chemical agent to the tissue that is responsible for the snoring problem. This will cause the tissue to harden reducing the vibration and the snoring as well.

The tissue normally injected with this substance is the uvula and the soft palate which are the usual culprit for the snoring. The procedure usually takes no more than 5 minutes to perform and normally it requires more injections of the chemical for the effects to be long lasting. The recovery time will take a couple of months and some discomfort will be felt. More than 75% of people, who use this procedure experience great reduction in their snoring, another advantage of the procedure is that is not invasive and is more economical than surgical procedures.

Snoreplasty and other procedures

The snoreplasty procedure is designed to eliminate the snoring sound but if you are suffering from obstructive sleep apnea the procedure won’t do much good for you. Since this procedure will only harden and stiff the tissue it will only reduce the vibration but won’t remove any existing obstruction.

There are other procedures like mandibular maxillar advancement surgery, tracheostomy, pillar procedure and Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty who are more suited to treat the sleep apnea problem. However all of these procedures are somehow invasive and more expensive. Depending on the condition that you are experiencing you might find which method works better for you. A visit to a sleep study clinic will definitely help in determining if you are a sleep apnea sufferer or just simply a loud snorer.

Other Antisnoring alternatives

The snoreplasty is quite an effective way to eliminate the snoring problem but is always a good idea to try other alternatives before removing any body tissue. Losing weight, changing sleep position, avoiding alcohol and tranquilizers at bedtime and living a healthier life style are a couple of simple changes that you can do to treat your condition. If the lifestyle changes are not enough you can go to the next level and try some devices like the cpap, dental mouthpieces, nasal strips, etc. They are usually very effective in treating mild snoring cases and sometimes even sleep apnea. Removing tonsils, laser surgery and the rest of the surgical procedures should always be the last resort to consider when experiencing a snoring problem.
